Although Sri Aurobindo Ghosh was a Bengali by birth and born
in Calcutta, he spent his post prison days in Pondicherry
and dedicated himself to the social and religious causes. It
is here in Pondicherry that he explored his spiritual side.
He was great nationalist, patriot, scholar, philosopher,
poet, yogi and religious guru. He had devoted himself in the
development of Pondicherry and still remembered for his
works. No wonder, people observe the Birth Anniversary of

from all over the world come to the city on that day. They
visit the Ashram built by the great leader to pay their
homage. They visit his rooms and show their respect with
flowers and gifts.
Birth Anniversary of Sri Aurobindo in Pondicherry is marked
with cultural programs all over the city. Social events like
free medical camps, distribution of clothes to the poor etc.
Discussions on the Rishi's works are organized. Tents and
Pandals are erected in the Ashram complex to accommodate the
people visiting the Ashram. The most striking aspect of the
celebrations is the strict discipline that is maintained
despite the heavy gathering. One of the many Fairs &
