The Mylapore Trio, S Surendranath, S Amarnath and S Aparna
of Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation celebrated
the V Balar Chithirai Kalai Vizha, an exclusive five day
Childrens' Festival for children and youth (from April, 27th
to 1st May 2007) to promote Tamizh culture. Children from
Chennai, Hosur, Salem, Kanchipuram, Nagapattinam, Karaikal,
Pondicherry etc. took part in this festival. The highlight
was participants and all others presented themselves in
traditional attire.
500 children between age groups 4 to 20 years participated
in 25 different events including Bharatanatyam, Folk Dance,
Carnatic Music, Folk Music, |

Painting, Craft, Kolam etc. Special attractions were Azhagum
Arivum (South Indian Beauty Pageant) Vidukathaiyum
Pazhamozhiyum (Proverbs & Riddles). Miss Mylapore - B
Priyadarsana - and Master Mylapore - V Karthik - were
crowned as Mylai Bala Kumari and Mylai Bala Kumaran
respectively.
Versatile personality Revathy Sankkaran was conferred the
title "Sakala Kala Valli" and presented the lifetime
Achievement Award (Goddess Saraswathi on Lotus) for her
contribution to Tamizh through Eyal, Isai and Natakam. V
Divya was conferred "Chithirakarapuli" (Arts), and Anjali
Rajan was conferred "Palkalai Vithaki"(Crafts). An
exhibition of their Art & Craft works was aesthetically
displayed.
Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Rolling Trophy – "PORTTRAAMARAI"
(Meenakshi Kalyanam on 3 storied Golden Lotus with a scroll)
- was instituted for the first time and was awarded to Shri
Muralidhara Guruji Vidyalayam / Guru Uma Murali of Perambur,
for large participation, active involvement and enthusiastic
volunteering to adhere to their concept of traditional
attire.
Revathy Sankkaran anchored "Kaaviya Ganam" - popular
devotional film songs of yesteryears sung by the Foundation
Children. She also presented "Kadhambam," a mixture of
various ideas, thoughts and tips for women and children. She
talked about "Acham, Madam, Naanam & Payirpu," compared the
past and the present family situations and status of women,
family life, changing culture, shared her experiences of
coming to limelight and also thanked her well wishers. She
distributed I, II, III and Consolation Prizes, Talent &
Multi-Talent Prizes etc.
She appreciated the Trio for their sincere efforts in
inculcating values to children through tradition, culture,
history and heritage. She requested parents to send their
wards to the Foundation to learn and imbibe the values.
